Using the 5 areas technique

Most of the time our emotions take over and we find it difficult to rationally reflect on a situation, especially in the moment. We use this to gather information and develop the skill to become an observer in our own experiences. The hardest part of this is taking the time to do it.
Step one: communicating with yourself.

Situation- Is always objective (not influenced by personal feelings or opinions)
Thoughts- Subconscious and conscious automatic thoughts intensify emotions
Emotions- One word answers often difficult to identify
Physical sensations- The body keeps its score and stores emotions if not released
Behaviours- how we respond is a choice
This is not about making your thoughts positive. Unless that works for you then great! If not lets aim to have balanced thoughts so we can regulate our emotions and think about new ways of approaching situations. This is about you being able to tell that friend that they have done something to upset you, its about being able to live your day to day life without having to avoid busy places or socialising. It gives you the space to learn how to meet your own needs, listen to that inner voice rather than ignore it.
Is the anxiety you feel a real indication that the situation you are in is harming you or is the anxiety there because of your past experiences? How are you meant to know? First step is communicating with yourself. Not challenge it, literally just observe.
What have you noticed?
Best Wishes
